Overview & Experience

Kay Stothart Rector is a native of Natchitoches, Louisiana. She graduated with honors from Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana at Monroe) in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal Studies. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center.

Kay is a member of both the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Mississippi Bar. She is admitted to practice before all state courts in Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as the U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana, Northern and Southern District of Mississippi and the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is also a Certified Civil and Family Mediator with advanced training in conflict resolution.

From 2014 to 2018, Kay served as the Hearing Officer for the Fifth Judicial District Court in Richland, Franklin and West Carroll Parishes, presiding over child support, paternity and other family law matters, conducting pre-trial settlement conferences and making recommendations for judicial resolution of disputes involving child custody, support and community property partition.

Before becoming a Hearing Officer, Kay was engaged in the private practice of law for more than two decades, focusing on family law, wills and successions. With extensive experience and specialized knowledge, she is committed to providing quality representation and sound legal advice to our clients at Cummins-Fitts.

In her spare time, Kay is a freelance writer with an emphasis on Southern culture, literature, art and travel. She is a regular contributor to regional publications including BayouLife magazine.
